Democrats who appeared on "The Colbert Report" raised about 44 percent more money after their appearance than they did before. Republicans, on the other hand, didn't fare as well after their Colbert appearance.
Msnbc.com would like Newsviners to comment on this new study that confirms the "Colbert bump," a surge in popularity following an appearance on "The Colbert Report," for Democrats, at least. And why do you think the show doesn't do the same for Republicans?
The Colbert Bump is a result of consensuses of enlightened opinion. As a typical Colbert viewer: college graduate, conscientious voter. I read at least one daily newspaper, listen to NPR, watch Discover, Public Broadcasting. We tolerate the bias of CNN, NBC and CBS and seek to understand the politics of world around us. If I do not get my Colbert fix I feel unbalanced. The past eight years have been Orwellian. The American public was completely out of touch with the values of the constitution and allowed fear mongering to strip them of their basic freedoms and values. Rove and Gingrich got a free Media pass as elitist billionaires controlled the air. Colbert/Stewart have addressed the need to inject truthiness into media and like superhero media guys they have saved the day.
Piffel.
You apparently only feel "balanced" and "informed" because you follow media outlets that reflect your preconceived ideas. Your statement reflects a fundamental contempt of democracy and the American population. The political landscape reflects EXACTLY the preferences of the American public even if they don't reflect yours. I may not like many current office holders or their policies, but my internal reality check would blast like an air raid siren if I ever held such elitist, condescending views. You are only informed of your own opinions. I strongly suggest you broaden your reading and listening habits beyond bastions of the Left.
"truthiness?" Seriously? You went to college?
Yes, "truthiness." You obviously have never watched "The Colbert Report;" Rose used the term correctly. Also, nice way to insult her education. Real classy.
I was planning to comment but Rose Vanheuvein said all that I had intended to say so, I guess I'm done here. Thanks, Rose.
I agree with C. Mall. It is funny that Rose views the obviously liberal Jon Stewart and back-handedly liberal Steven Colbert as superhero's. It is also funny that she describes CNN, NBC, and CBS as biased. If anything these are biased to the left. Rose describes listening to NPR, Discover, and Public Broadcasting as if these are fair and balanced. In fact they lean so far to the left they almost make Stewart look fair and balanced.
If she were complaining about bias by the Fox News, I could almost see Rose's point, but C. Mall is correct that she is only informed of her own opinions. Her idea of "truthiness" and feeling balanced seems to be hearing a media source that she agrees with. I think Rose is among the minority of those that would use the term "conservative media."
